Lead in Water – What You Need to Know
Certified Master Water Specialist Wayne Slark details what you need to about lead in water and how to protect your water at home.
How does lead get into city water? How to prevent it from coming into your home.
Cities test water and even when it meets the criteria, it can still get contaminated before it reaches your home. After it leaves, it goes through the distribution system which is piping that can be made from lead. If the piping is made from lead and if the water treatment company changes their chemical process, you can get the situation that took place in Flint, Michigan, where the lead got into the water due to the chemicals that were in the water.
What to do? Guard your house! Put a protection device on your water coming in to protect your family. Lead comes in two forms (1) it’s in the ionic stage and to remove that, a simple water softener will take care of the ionic lead (2) particulate lead, use a micron filter or even better, a reverse osmosis system. That will take care of all particulate lead.
